Ancient Vedic Indian literature
The Puranas are a vast genre of ancient Indian literature that encompass a wide range of topics, including legends, cosmology, mythology, and traditional lore. They are composed in Sanskrit and other Indian languages, and many are named after major Hindu deities such as Vishnu, Shiva, and Devi. There are 18 major Puranas in Hinduism, each with its unique focus and teachings, such as the Shiva Purana, which centers on the mythology and worship of Lord Shiva. These texts play a significant role in the cultural and religious practices of Hinduism.

God Agni |
Agni Purana, one of the major eighteen Puranas, contains descriptions and details of various incarnations (avatars) of Vishnu. It also has details account about Rama, Krishna, Prithvi, and the stars. It has a number of verses dealing with ritual worship, cosmology, history, warfare, and even sections on Sanskrit grammar, meter, law, medicine, and martial arts. Tradition has it that it was originally recited by Agni to the sage Vasishta.
